The Tofu Village was quite a find. Was taken here for dinner by a Penang local. The cod fish with garlic and chilli was fresh and fragrant. We also ordered the claypot chicken with fungus, and Hakka rice wine chicken. The highlight for me was the stuffed tofu and taro clay pot. The flavours were delightful. All portions were a generous size and the service was very personable and friendly. The food was a good representation of genuine Hakka cuisine. 4 *

The owner of the cafe was there and recommended us what to try. We initially came here for their authentic Lei cha set but it was unfortunately sold out. Though it was a bummer, we decided to try their other dishes as recommended. We did and had no regrets! Great food and friendly staff as well. We especially enjoyed the stir fried yam abacus, braised pork yam dish and the prawns! Do try this place out if you’re on the lookout for Lei cha as it’s fairly hard to come by nowadays.

Wanna go there to try the lei cha but too bad it is for 4pax,I don't think I can finish all. In the end order suan pan zi, set lunch, chicken soup that i forget take photo. The Broth was so thick and taste good should be due to cooking wine and the sesame oil added. 1st time try suan pan zi, it is chewy, I guess it is glutinous rice and shape into the shape after boil and dry, they fried it together with other ingredient. I will order again for the next visit. Set lunch is kinda normal, nothing surprise, the portion is just nice for me.

Were to try their authentic Lei cha but too bad it was sold out. Nevertheless, we tried other dishes. The Hakka rice wine chicken and braised pork with black fungus is superb! Prices are at reasonable range too. Definitely in my family’s ‘approved restaurant list’. Will definitely visit again to make sure we get to try the Lei cha next time.

Overall the food was a bit of overly heavy flavor for my liking, and it's too oily. But the Yong Tau Fu stands out must try if you're there. Price was very reasonable.

Chicken wine suppose to be rich and aromatic with combination of Shaoxin wine, ginger and sesame oil. But it’s out of expectations. No wine smells, even the taste not enough wine, no warming fragrance. But the chicken is tender and juicy. Abacus also out of expectations but the taste still not bad.

Hakka food is hard to find in Penang, so we were thrilled to discover Tofu Village, which offers very authentic and tasty Hakka cuisine. We ordered the Lei Cha (so tasty), Yam Pork, Mugwort omelette, salted egg tofu, and more than a plate of Hakka Fried Pork, Yam Abacus, Fu Chew Pork, a lotus root and radish dish, Hot Spicy Yong Tau Fu, and other dishes. For the 11 of us, we ordered a total of 20 dishes that night. Everyone was so happy and satisfied with the food. The very friendly boss lady was so kind and even prepared a bowl of bear bear dessert to wish him a Happy Birthday. Overall, we had a great evening with wonderful food and great company. Thanks, Nicki!

We ordered the Abacus, Yong Tau Foo and Yellow Wine Chicken. I found the flavours to be quite light for my taste. However, I understand that different people have different preferences when it comes to flavours. Overall, it was a decent experience.
